There are couple strategies that every job seeker shall follow to get good results, some of them are:
- Upload your resume to the web and keep it up to date:
Alot of people getting calls from employers or placement agencies referring to the job seeker’s online resume which has been placed in either Workopolis, Monster or other trusted place.
- The word of mouth:
With meetup.com you can search for the nearest job related group and follow their meetings agenda, join them, prepare some business cards, attend their meetings, share ideas, show them your skills and Professions and increase your social network.
- LinkedIn.com:
Create your account indicating your educational background, practical experience, trainings and search for people whom worked with you, link with them and they might ask for recommendations and search for jobs
With Working Canada government website you will have access to potential employers, Labour Market Information, Wages & Salaries, Where to Get Training and much more
- Calling the employers:
You may prepare a calling script (30sec - 1min) and start calling your potential employers, you may find employers addresses at the public library through Scotts directory, don't give up with the first couple calls when they go wrong, just try and try
- Don't Copy & paste the covering letter to the e-mail body, simple e-mail body will be enough
- Create excell sheet with all your daily submitted applications
- Avoid sending your application by Fax unless you call after and make sure they received it
- Instead of addressing your covering letter to Mr. or Ms you may use "Hiring Manager"
